Come and Be Fed   All Saints Staff

Rev. Kit CarlsonRev. Katherine “Kit” Carlson began her tenure in February 2007. She comes to All Saints from Church of the Ascension in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where she was associate rector, then interim rector following the rector's retirement. She served Ascension for more than six years, following her graduation from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2000. While at Ascension, she oversaw the development of three additional worship services in the renovated historic chapel, added a labyrinth and centering prayer ministry and an annual silent retreat.

She is definitely not a silent person, however. Kit loves almost every kind of music and enjoys singing and playing the cello. She loves the outdoors, especially the Copper Country of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and she likes camping, boating and backpacking. She spent two undergraduate years at MSU (where she worshipped with both All Saints and Canterbury-MSU), and the second two years at University of Florida (Go Gators!), where she met her husband, Wendell Lynch. They have been married since 1980 and have two almost-grown children, Andrew and Katie Carlson-Lynch.

Prior to becoming a priest, Kit was a journalist, freelance writer, book author, community coordinator for an au pair program, editor of Discovery Channel's print magazine, marketing director for a long-term care company, and a stay-at-home mom. She is grateful to God for guiding her to put all that experience to good work in one single occupation. You can visit Pastor Carlson's blog at: http://allsaints-el.blogspot.com/.

All Saints welcomed the Rev. Andrew Shirota to its parish in the Fall of 2011. Fr. Andrew, who is serving as assistant rector. is a native of Japan who originally came to the United States in 1995 to study English for the summer. Being fascinated with American culture, he has continued his study and earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from City University of Seattle, worked at a DNA testing company in Seattle for over five years as an IT person before moving to Evanston, Illinois to attend Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. He was ordained priest in the diocese of Olympia in 2009. Before coming to Michigan, he served at St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church in Lacey, Washington as Associate Vicar, and also in All Saints Anglican Church of Canada in Windsor, Ontario as Honorary Associate. His passion is in multicultural ministry, youth and outreach. He loves traveling and hopes to visit his friends and family back in his homeland sometime in the near future.

All Saints StaffOffice Manager Susie Pearson is the friendly face behind the desk in the church office and the friendly voice on the phone when you call.  Susie handles most of the administrative tasks of the parish, including scheduling use of the building and selling parking passes. If you have a question, she is the best person to start with. She is in the office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Sexton Scott Hoffman keeps the building clean and in good working order.  You will find Scott at work between 2 and 10 p.m., so if you are in the building after hours, he can help you with any questions you have.

Minister of Music Michael Crouch is in charge of all the music offered in worship at All Saints, as well as playing the organ and piano in services.  He personally directs the Cherub and Children's Choirs, and works closely with the volunteer director of the Bell Choir. He helps the rector plan services and oversees all aspects of the music program.

Assistant Organist Meredith Hines plays the hymns and service music at All Saints. She also accompanies the adult choir and plays the postludes. Meredith received her Bachelor’s Degree in Pipe Organ Performance from Albion College and has served mid-Michigan churches for 33 years, most recently as Interim Organist-Choir Director at Grace Lutheran Church in Lansing. Concurrently, Meredith completed her 32nd year as a secretary with the Michigan Department of Education, having served 14 of those years in the Office of Special Education and Early Intervention Services.

Director of Children and Youth Ministries is Sheila Wiitala.  She oversees the Sunday School, Rite 13 and other youth programs, as well as parenting classes, Vacation Bible School, and other programs that support our young people and their parents. Her two children, Drew and Marija, are also active in our programs.

Chaplain Sarah Midzalkowski is not officially an All Saints employee, but the office of the student ministry, Canterbury-MSU, is at All Saints and Sarah is frequently found attending or assisting with our programs. She preaches once a month in the Sunday worship services.
