All Saints Worship Services

At All Saints, worship is at the heart of all we do. Week after week, we gather to praise God, to pray together, to hear the good news proclaimed, and to share in the bread and wine made holy at God's table. Then, strengthened for our work in the world, we are sent forth into our daily lives, fed and restored by our time together with God.

On Sundays, services are held at 8 a.m. (with the traditional language from the 16th century) and at 10 a.m. (with music and a service in modern English). Both are celebrations of Holy Eucharist, or Communion, where we share the holy bread and wine.

During the week, an early communion service is held at 7 a.m. on Thursdays, with a light breakfast and fellowship after. A service of Evening Prayer is read in the chapel Monday through Thursday at 5 p.m.

As an Episcopal church, All Saints is a liturgical church. The word liturgy comes from a Greek word that means "work of the people." In our services, members of the congregation read lessons, serve communion, usher, serve on the altar, and sing in the choir, sharing the the leadership of the service with the priest. Also, the congregation is gathered to share in the "work" of worship through each person's participation in the prayers and hymns. As a liturgical church, our service is basically the same from Sunday to Sunday. This practice strengthens us in a habit of worship, week by week. Catholics and Lutherans will find our service very similar to their own. Those who come from other denominations -- or even no denomination -- are encouraged to follow along with the service, watch what is going on around you, and enter into the spirit and practice of our worship.

All are welcome to come to the altar at communion time. The bread is offered first, then a common chalice of wine is offered. You can eat the bread and drink from the cup, or you can hold the bread, then dip it lightly into the wine, if you prefer. If you are not baptized, but wish to be blessed, simply cross your arms across your chest and the priest will bless you.

Children are always welcome in our services. There is nursery care for children under 3, or if you wish your children to worship with you, a "soft space" is arranged in the front of the church with quiet toys and coloring pages. Sunday School for ages 3 and up is offered weekly during the school year, and children come in to join their families about half-way through the worship service.

We hope you will join us to worship God and share "the fellowship of all the saints" gathered here on Abbott Road.
