All Saints helps transform Habitat Home for Lansing Family
Anna Malavisi and her three daughters finally have a home. On Wednesday August 3, the home at 1325 Mary Avenue was dedicated, which brought to close the work on our Habitat Build. It was an amazing experience. We helped Anna and her family fulfill their dream – to own their own home. As you might recall, the home was a previous Habitat-build that was originally rehabilitated in 2006, and had found its way back into the “system”. The home had sustained fire damage, and had sat empty for some time. Originally, there were two avenues for rehabilitating the home, based upon the size of the potential family; upgrading it from its current status to a four bedroom – two bath layout, or a major reconstruction that would have resulted in a home with six bedrooms and two baths. After some “juggling” with the selected homeowner, it was finally decided to reconstruct the home to its original configuration, which was much cheaper and resulted in a quicker turn-around time (about six months). I can still remember that first Saturday when we began the demolition and cleanup work in the interior of the home – what a mess. I would truly like to thank that first crew for a “dirty” job well done. I wish you all could have seen the home in the “before” and “after” stages of construction – what an amazing transformation. It is a beautiful home for Anna and her daughters. In front of the home with Rob Maffeo talking to Ginny and a few others that attended the dedication while waiting for the clergy to arrive. I want to thank all that participated in the Build; whether offering their time and skills during the Saturday workdays, or volunteering their time and/or contributing monetarily at either of the two fund raising events, the “Bowling for Habitat Dollars” and the “Silent Auction”. I would also like to thank Deb and Mike Lashbrook for all their hard work organizing both fund raising events. Without their event planning expertise and dedication to our project, neither event would have been as successful as they were. Job well done!!
