Come and Be Fed   What to Expect

Visiting any church for the first time can be pretty intimidating. And as you have seen if you've clicked through this website, we have a lot of activities and programs at All Saints. But we hope that you will find All Saints to be a place where you can relax, meet new friends, and find many different opportunities that will help you continue on your spiritual journey. We want you to feel at home.

When you arrive at All Saints for either our 8 or 10:00 am Worship Services, you´ll park in the large parking lot on Abbot Road. The glass doors lead you into our entryway. Worship is held upstairs – in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at 8 a.m. and in the main sanctuary at 10 a.m. You may take the stairs up, or walk straight ahead (past the Undercroft, the large room where Coffee Hour is held) to the elevator. Our building is completely handicapped accessible on all levels.

Upstairs, pick up a service leaflet from one of our friendly greeters, or from the leaflet holders by the entry doors. This contains everything you need to know to participate in worship. Plus, it includes our announcement and activity insert that gives you a glimpse of who we are and what we are about.

Kids and Youth

If you have kids, we have trained child care providers in our nursery for ages birth through 3. The nursery is just off our rear entrance on Grove Street. Walk past the worship area and up the stairs. You are also welcome to keep your child in church with you. We have a “soft space” area at the front of the sanctuary with quiet toys and religious books and coloring pages.

For children preschool through 5th grade, we gather at 9:45 a.m., prior to Sunday School, in the lounge. The lounge is on the ground floor, past the elevator and to the left. We have three age levels … preschool, early elementary, and later elementary. The children are in Sunday School during the first half of the service, and they are brought upstairs to join their parents at 9:40, in time for communion.

Our Middle School and High School students meet on Sunday mornings from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. during the school year.

Attire

Dress however you feel most comfortable. Some people wear ties and coats or dresses and pumps, some wear what is dryly known as “office casual”, students dress like … well, students!

The Services

Each of our services has a slightly different feel.

Our 8 a.m. Service is a time of quiet reflection. We use the exquisitely beautiful Shakespearean language service, which dates to the earliest days of our denomination. Communion is always offered at this service.

Our 10:00 am Service is our primary service and seeks to reach out to all generations. The music is led by the All Saints Choir, but our Children’s Choir and Cherub Choir (preschoolers) offer music once a month during the school year. Sunday School for children is held during the first part of this service during the school year, and children join their parents in time for communion.

Canterbury-MSU, the Episcopal student ministry, offers a casual communion service at 5 p.m. on Sundays during the school semesters. All are welcome at Canterbury services, whether or not you are a student. Students are also welcome at the All Saints morning services.

After the service, we hope you´ll stay around, meet some people and enjoy some coffee. Church is about God and worship, but it´s also about community and friendship, so we hope people really experience warmth and friendliness at All Saints.

Adult Education is offered twice on Sunday mornings – a Bible Study group meets at 9 a.m. in our library to listen or views tapes by noted biblical scholars to learn more about our sacred text. At 11:30, we host an Adult Forum. The forum covers a variety of topics: the Bible, spirituality, peace and justice issues, and ways to lead a more focused and Godly life.

Once a quarter, we offer the Come and Be Fed in our lounge, a chance for those who want to know more about All Saints to meet the pastor and various leaders in the church to answer any questions you may have. This is a great way to take a first step towards getting more involved.
